What I Want for My Birthday
Sorry for disappearing for a while there. 2 weeks ago were exams, and once they were done, I just wanted to rest, not blog.
So rest I did.
Again, I’m sorry. It’s my birthday tomorrow – the least you can do is forgive me for my absence!
Yes – I am turning 16 tomorrow. What else is there to say? It’s not like I’m going to feel any different tomorrow. It’s not like I’m going to suddenly become more mature (or less mature). It’s not like I’m automatically going to grow more wise. It’s just a number – but it’s still a nice excuse for celebration!
Birthdays are kind of awkward though, when you think about it: relatives freaking out about how much you’re growing up, people randomly singing happy birthday to you out of no where and others constantly asking you what you want for your birthday – all while you just stand there, wondering what you’re supposed to do.
“What do you want for your birthday?”
How am I supposed to answer that? I don’t know of anything I’d want, at least not anything affordably or realistically available I’d want. I mean, what’s the use of answering that question with something I can’t get anyway?
Apparently though, it’s hard to find me a good gift, so I get asked this question a lot.
You want an answer; I’ll give you an answer – my real, pretty much (but still far from) impossible wishlist of what I really want for my birthday.
What I Want for My Birthday
3. AJ Rafael’s CD
(My friend Carrie actually ordered this on Amazon for me when she saw this post! I’m so excited for it already!)
I mean the physical CD, not just illegally downloaded mp3 files.
I’ve always loved AJ Rafael; he’s an amazing singer, he’s one of the few musicians on Youtube who write songs I actually like, and he’s Filipino.
When I heard he was coming up with a CD, I was ecstatic. You have no idea how much I wanted that CD (and still want that CD).
I hate that you can only buy the CD in America (and that I was in America just a couple of months before it was released). I hate that it costs so much to ship such a tiny little thing to the Philippines on Amazon. I hate that a $10 iTunes gift card in the Philippines costs more than $10, so I can’t even get the digital copy alone.
Oh, well.
2. A Home Studio
Or at least some good recording equipment, preferably these ones from EditorsKeys.
I love listening to song covers on Youtube – videos of people like AJ Rafael (of course), Christina Grimmie, DaViglio (Micki and Debs have separate channels now though, which is too bad cause they were awesome together), Karmin, etc.
Listening to these people makes me want to become like these people. I love singing, and I love Youtube, so why not? I’ve actually been trying to come up with a video to post for a while now, but I hesitate and end up not posting it every time. I am, after all, my own worst critic, and I’m already a pretty terrible critic in general.
1. The opportunity to watch Wicked, the musical
I absolutely love Wicked. Defying Gravity was the first real solo I ever sang in public, so the musical holds a bit of sentimental value for me. I’d been pretty obsessed with it for a few years now: I read the book, bought the sountrack, and memorized every single song.
I’ve watched parts of it on Youtube over and over, but I’d love to go to England or New York just to be able to watch the entire thing, live. It’s what I want more than anything right now.
Happy Birthday! If you were in the US, you’d be celebrating your “sweet sixteen”, because that’s when you get to start learning how to drive a car. So 16 is a big deal here, and nowhere else. =P
It looks like only the first is really feasible at the moment. It’s your birthday, and maybe your family will fork out the money to buy that CD for you! And New York is such a prevalent city in so many industries, that I’m sure that you’ll get a chance to go there someday. Enjoy tomorrow!
ClarisseI can’t really have a sweet sixteen cause I share my birthday party with my twin brother, haha, naturally. I’m not actually sure when you start learning to drive over here.
I already have a present from my parents. :) It’s not that it’s not affordable, it’s just that it’s kind of a waste to spend for shipping for just one item, and a really light item too. I think if I find someone who’s going to the U.S. soon I’d ask the person to buy it for me, haha.
I actually did go to New York last summer, but it was only for a connecting flight to Puerto Rico. My cousin’s got the chance to stay in New York a bit longer than I did; they got to watch Wicked. When they told me about it, you could just imagine how jealous I was!

Happy Birthday for tomorrow. :D Omg, you’re only 16?! I so thought you were older than that haha, that was a shock for sure. :P Happy birthday to your brother, too. :P
Personally, I think birthday’s are overrated. My family have never been “big” on birthday’s (unless it’s a big one like 18 or 21) so I’m kind of used to not having any fuss. I prefer getting money for my birthday so I can buy what I want with it. :B
The first on your wishlist is feasible, I guess. I haven’t bought a CD in such a long time though – I usually download them (legally, of course).
I hope you get the chance to see Wicked the musical live one day! I’m not a fan of musicals personally, but I’m sure it would be awesome.
Enjoy tomorrow! :)
I wish people just gave me money! I think it would be easier for everyone that way, haha.

I always just tell people I want money instead. I don’t understand what’s so bad about gifting money over some inanimate object that I would probably rather take back, anyway. Blah.
I hope you get to someday have all of those things one day. …Even if not for your birthday. Personally, I was expecting a lot more than a mere three items on your list! Then again, maybe girls in America are just really want-y.
I didn’t know Wicked was a musical… I’d like to see it, too. :P
I’d love to get money as a gift all the time!
There are some other things I want, but nothing I really, really want like personally, or at least not anything I’d still want a couple of months from now, so I didn’t put those on the list. :)

Happy late birthday… :D
I remember when I turned sixteen…lol. Good times. See, now I’m eighteen and old enough to reflect on my high school years. Har har. I hope you enjoyed it and got cool shiz from your parents and friends.

Wow, 16, really? I thought you were a lot older! At least you appear to be more mature than I was at that age. xP
I think that’s the major reason as to why I don’t celebrate my birthday. It doesn’t make sense to because nothing really changes on that day specifically (unless someone gives you a million dollars, which, let’s face it, doesn’t tend to happen). But hey, from one stranger to another – happy birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (sorta…) lol
I hope you had a great day, and got “some” of the gifts from your wishlist :PI hate getting asked what I want for my birthday! I always feel awkward answering… so one year I decided to say “I want a helicopter” to anyone who asked me. One of my friends made me a parachute (a plastacene man connected to a parachute) and wrote a card saying “I couldn’t afford a helicopter, but hopefully the parachute will come in handy once you actually get one” :) That really made my day! haha
My friend did order me the CD. It’ll come in like 20 days though, but it’s still pretty awesome that she got it for me!
What your friend did was really thoughtful and cute, haha.
