What Defines The Decade
8 comments Thoughts, 2000-2009, 2010-2019, Associations, DecadeWhen you think of the 60′s, 70′s or 80′s, specific music, fashion and trends come to mind, whether it be hippies, disco or “big hair”, there will always be something.
It makes me wonder; as the years go by, what would the years 2000-2009 be associated with? How about the years 2010-2019? Like The Beatles for the 1960′s, what musician or band will always be linked to our time? Would it be Britney, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga or someone else? What kinds of clothes would come to mind?
What would they be called? The “zeros”? The “tens”? The early 21st century? The after-early 21st century?
It’s hard to tell because, living in the year 2010, it’s hard to imagine not living in it. It’s hard to see what might seem different in the future because we’re just so used to things the way they are.
Maybe in about 10 years or so, I’ll have an answer. Maybe I’ll even blog about it – I mean, if blogging’s still a “thing” by then.

I think the term “Noughties” has been used for our era :)
I don’t think technology will have advanced very much in ten years. In some “futuristic” films we were expected to have hover cars and stuff by 2000!
We may have electric cars within fifty years. As far as I can tell, not much will happen in ten years. The oil might run out but that’s about as much
Come to me in ten years and we’ll talk about it then haha :) In ten years I’ll be nearly thirty! Who knows what the future holds, really?
PS: I love your theme ^^,
Gabi
I think about this all the time. Right now everything about our lives seems so normal to us. It’s hard to tell what’s going to seem important ten years from now.
The thing that concerns me the most is style. Right now I feel so stylish. Am I going to look back at myself and say “OMG, those skinny jeans look horrendous” like people from the 80s say now about their perms and light pants?
What’s strange about the last decade (towards the end) is that there is a lot of reusing going on. Old movies are remade, old fashion is being brought back, musicians are being more inspired by the mid-1900s. Perhaps it will be remembered as the decade of reinvention?

This makes me curious as to what would really define our generation. I think that over time, trends haven’t become as trendy or definite as the mullet and other icons from the past. It’s a bit strange to think about. Maybe we’ll all have iPhones and phones or something. I can’t think of anything that is iconical to our generation.
I can’t really think of what they’d call this decade either; maybe the 21st century would just span a heap. Apparently for 00, they called it the “noughties”. I thought that was ridiculous.
Thank you for the comment on my layout! Other people were saying that they couldn’t guess what I was going to do with the quotes either; they certainly didn’t think it was going to be a new layout either.
I love your two sidebars. Sometimes I’ve seen them look really tacky on some websites but I think you’ve done a really good job.
I think my site looks decent in Internet Explorer but it’s just not the best it could be and there are differences.
I can’t believe you’ve not gone to a museum. They’re really great, depending on what kind of museum you go to though. ^_^
Good luck with the assignments! :)

This is always an interesting thought don’t you think. What do we have now that will be so antique like some of the items that were “hot and trendy” back in the 60s or 80s?
I very much would like to answer your questions but I”m stuck in my thoughts about this..
Let’s hope that in 10 years time when you blog about the past, you will link back to this very post .

Hey! :)
I definitly think that it’s kinda difficult to define those past 10 years right now. But I think some really important or outstanding things have happened & maybe they’ll define this past decade.
Artist like Britney, Taylor & Lady Gaga definitely were an important aspect to this past decade & I am pretty sure they’ll be remembered for a long time – especially because they have put up new records in different fields of the music industry.
I can’t really imagine how much things will/can change in the next couple of years & decades. And when I think about how I look back at old pictures or videos and think to myself “How could people EVER dress/look like that?!” I honestly don’t want to know what I’ll think about my current style in a few years/decades. I know that I dresses ridiculous as a kid & there are a lot of pictures that have proof. xD

That’s an interesting topic, I’ve never thought about it before. I wonder what they will refer to it as, maybe the “pop” year? Because there are a lot more pop artists now.
I hope your homework calms down. )

Pointless arguments sort of upset me because of the time they waste. I mean, having a discussion with a friend when you both disagree is one thing, but when you have an actual fight with someone, sometimes it can be over the littlest things!
I feel much closer to friends. There is the physical closeness with my family but I don’t talk to them about many things. I talk to my brother a lot but we don’t share much; we just chat. My parents have always been there for me even though our family isn’t really bonded so well. I think you are lucky that you are close to your family in a good way.
It’s really hard imagining things a different way to what they are like now. I guess it also makes me feel thankful about what I’ve got, too. :)

I seriously need to learn how to control my anger at time. I take out on people sometimes. But in the morning i’m not mad, i’m really shy person when it comes to guys and i look as if i’m mad. I become tongue tied. I have no clue what to say when i’m around him and i don’t want to laugh like some girls i see on tv because that is pathetic.
I think 10 years from now, we will have hover cars and new technology. They will be able to make holographic people.
