We Will Miss You, Simon
Just this morning, I was watching the beginning of the finale of American Idol’s 9th season. The main purpose of it was to announce this year’s winner. Despite this, I’d like to think of it as a tribute to Simon Cowell. I wish this season wasn’t his last. I don’t think it would ever feel quite right without his painfully honest critique. When I think of American Idol, I think of Simon Cowell. In many ways and to many people, Simon Cowell is American Idol. It just won’t be the same without him.
In between all the Simon Cowell memories, there were some amazing performances, but I’d have to say that my favorite one was when General Larry Platt went on the stage and performed Pants on the Ground. I couldn’t stop laughing, especially when William Hung suddenly showed up and sang. I love it when they put in little surprises like that.
I noticed that there weren’t many current artists. I recall last year’s finale when my mom kept asking me who the guest performers were. This year, I was the one asking my mom. It’s not that I have anything against the people that did perform, but I found this strange. Perhaps they had a smaller budget, hmm.
I also liked that one song where the former American Idol winners went on the stage and sang with some of the old contestants. Too bad I couldn’t really pay attention the first time I watched (yes, I watched it twice – I couldn’t find anything else to watch) since I was wondering, pretty much the entire time, “Where is David Cook?” As one of my favorite Idols, I couldn’t help noticing that he was missing.
Though she seemed pretty much clueless half the time, and she didn’t always judge that well, I do miss seeing Paula in the judges panel. It’s just that the chemistry between the 3 original judges – Randy, Paula and Simon – was amazing. I do love Ellen as a judge, and Kara…well, Kara’s okay, but American Idol was just so awesome with those 3 as the judges. Now, the only one of them left is Randy. I guess Ryan’s there, but that’s pretty much it.
I was rooting for Lee to win, but I didn’t really care who won. Both Lee and Crystal are extremely talented and equally deserving of the title. It’s very likely that both of them will end up with recording contracts anyway. I was really happy that Lee won though; he needed the boost in his self-esteem. He was so nervous last night when he sang, and he was nervous before they announced the winner.
Excited as I was, actually, when I think about it, this was probably the only time I was this excited all season.
There hasn’t really been anything this season that made me direct all my attention to the T.V. screen. There wasn’t anyone that made me think, “I wonder what he’ll do next.” or “I can’t wait to see her next performance.” I just never feel like watching anymore. There are just never any surprises, and so the show started to bore me.
I remember being so glued to the television every episode. I always had something to look forward to. People like Chris Daughtry, David Cook, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert – they made the show exciting for me. They weren’t even my personal favorites. I was so focused.
Now, I do other things while watching. I don’t even really watch anymore; I just partially listen. I never pay full attention. American Idol’s getting boring. It doesn’t make it any better that Simon’s leaving.
Honestly, I’m not sure if I’m even gonna watch the show next year. I might watch it at first, but, if it gets boring (which it probably will), I’ll just stop. The show has already lost a lot of fans. If they mess up next year, I don’t know what’s going to happen to them.
Good luck to Simon’s replacement; you can never really replace Simon Cowell. Good luck to next year’s contestants; I hope you’ll make the show exciting again. Good luck to American Idol; you better not mess this up.

They sent an email that said it will be delivered on the 28th. :D I cannot wait. :D
They accused my class of stealing A CALCULATOR once. I mean seriously?? Who would want that. They searched all of out bags and no one had. Turns out the teacher had it but forgot where he put it.
G2g to class, i’ll comment your blog in my next class.

I don’t think most people would care if their calculator got stolen because well it is a calculator lol.
I actually didn’t see who won but I heard about him. I don’t think American Idol will be funny anymore because Simon is not in it. It just won’t be the same. His criticism is like half the reason why people watch that show so it would really suck.

lol I stopped watching american idol a loong time ago. My friend went and tried out and they told him to travel to another state so he could get on the show because they were only looking for jokes at the location he went to..
after that statement I was done.I feel like simon did the right thing leaving, american idol is a tired show to me it’s repetitive and it got boring faster than expected.Still people really followed it so I guess the viewership kept it going.
If it makes another 2 seasons without the original judges I’ll be shocked.
ClarisseWow, that’s mean and strange. I would probably stop watching if that happened to my friend.
There were a lot of things that I hated about the show last year, but, the entire time, I was generally excited. It was probably because of Adam Lambert though; he surprised me all the time. Without exciting contestants like that, the show just got boring. There are good singers of course, but they never did surprise me.
I would be shocked too, unless they did something drastic that suddenly made the show more exciting.

I agreeeee with everything you just said. lol. American Idol is getting pretty boring, and I used to be glued to it as well. I didn’t even know who won this season until I read your post! LOL. I’m glad Lee did!! He was my favorite :-P
I can’t imagine how next season will be without Simon… I thought American Idol was his creation? I doubt I’ll even watch it without him there… he was the only one to really tell it like it is.
