Vacationing

I’ve come back, almost 3 weeks later than I had originally said I would. I’m sure by now the already unstable readership of this blog has plummeted to zero, and, in spite of the amount of time I spent out of the country “finding inspiration” and all that, I’m sorry to say I can’t think of anything to post about, besides my actual trip.

I’m going to start this out by saying that I generally hate traveling. It didn’t help that my so-called “vacation” started with a major freak-out on my part. You see, when we got to the airport, we counted the luggage, and it turned out we were missing one. Mine. A lot of things happened that morning, and in all the confusion, we forgot to bring my bag. Everyone tried to cheer me up by telling me that we were going to get new clothes to replace the ones I’d left, but that didn’t really help. For the next few hours, I was in panic mode, thinking about nothing but the fact that I was going halfway across the world for 3 weeks, and I had almost nothing of my own to bring with me. You can’t blame me for being upset.

I was extremely frustrated while traveling, as we had to take 3 flights just to get to Puerto Rico – in other words, 30 boring hours straight just flying and waiting for flights. I had become extremely bitter; I’m pretty sure at least half of what I was saying were complaints.

All my frustrations didn’t matter when we boarded our last plane of the day – not because I was glad it was almost over with or because it was the shortest flight of the group. It was because I just happened to be on the same plane as none other than Bruno Mars. Yes, that Bruno Mars. I was too shy to go up to him, but both unfortunately and fortunately, my mom didn’t care. It was unfortunate because, well, who wouldn’t feel at least a bit embarrassed by their mom screaming, “Are you Bruno Mars? Really? Oh my god, I love you!” But then again, thanks to her, erm, enthusiasm, I got to shake his hand and, later on, even get a picture and an autograph. Thanks to him, I was an optimistic girl again.

It was smooth sailing from that point onwards. We found this huge Old Navy store in Puerto Rico, and I bought almost all the clothes I needed in that store alone. The cruise was so much more fun than expected, mostly because of all the time I spent with my cousins (it was a family reunion). The 24 hour buffet, amazing cookies, Rock Band, foosball, pools and jacuzzis were all just bonuses (my family’s that awesome). My brother and I now feel the terrible need to buy a foosball table though – as if I hadn’t spent enough on the trip already! We went to Disney World and Universal Studios after. You can just imagine all the hurt my wallet had to go through for me these past few weeks.

The travel home felt so much shorter than the first set of flights, mostly because I was so tired that I was asleep almost the entire time. Though I had fun, the trip had made me extremely homesick. I missed my house, I missed my boyfriend, I missed paying in pesos instead of dollars. The first thing we did when we got home was eat some Filipino food. I’ve never craved some good garlic rice this much my whole life. Even more than that, I want to eat a mango. There are no mangoes on the cruise even though we had passed through quite a few Caribbean islands. Of course, I also missed having internet that wasn’t either paid or annoyingly inconsistent, otherwise I would’ve posted sooner.

Overall, it was an amazing trip. I love my family so much more now. I miss my cousins terribly. They were the best part of this entire trip. Even better than meeting Bruno Mars. I mean it. Seriously.

Sorry for the long and boring post. I will try to post something shorter within the next couple of days, and maybe I’ll even code a layout or two. I make no promises though!

Aw I am glad your trip ended up being a great experience! Man I need a vacation like that! Just know that you spent it with your family and became that much closer is worth losing a luggage and going broke :)

I would spaz if my luggage was missing, especially since I generally hate traveling too. I don’t know, it just never appeals to me. I like sleeping in my own bed and knowing that all of my belongings are within reach.

I’m glad you had a good time. It’s always unfortunate when so much goes wrong at the beginning of a trip. I’m so jealous that you got to meet Bruno Mars. I love him. He’s the only man shorter than me that I could say I’m attracted to, haha. I would probably be too shy to go up to him, but my dad would probably do what your mom did…just like he did when we ran into Tony the Tiger at the Kellogg’s factory.

I’ve always thought that the Philippines had the best mangoes and nobody else has come close. That’s definitely one of the things I load up on whenever I go there to visit.

I’m sorry that your trip started out on the wrong foot, but I’m glad that everything worked out by the end :)

That’s great that you got to meet Bruno Mars! Such a coincidence for you guys to be on the same plane! Things happen for a reason, yeah? ;) I’m not sure if I’d ever recognize him, though…
