The Importance of Sleep

Ever since school started, I haven’t been getting as much sleep as I’d like to. I’ve learned, the hard way, that getting a lot of sleep on weekends doesn’t make up for lack of sleep on weekdays. I slept 12 hours straight last night, but that didn’t stop me from yawning like 20 times an hour today.

I get an idea for a blog post, but then, when I try to write it, I find myself struggling for the right words. I’m pretty sure my writing’s just all over the place with this post, like it’s been with many of my recent posts. I have gotten so many ideas these past few days, but I’ve barely been able to post any of them.

I open Photoshop, and I just stare at it, waiting for my brain to think of something artistic to do. I keep trying to make icons and themes for my icons website and themes website, but these websites have remained pretty much untouched since they’ve been opened, aside from the pathetic squirrel icons I added the other day.

I find myself making the stupidest mistakes at school. Simple math problems seem to confuse me. My correction-fluid has almost run out. Obvious answers are slipping my mind. It’s so frustrating to deal with.

Writer’s block, designer’s block and mental block are beginning to take over – I refuse to let them. I should really get some more sleep. I’m so tired of yawning over and over and over again. My mouth’s actually starting to hurt a bit.

Your post was like a reality check for me, ugh. Haha. I have been trying to sleep earlier, for the most part. I really need to get more sleep each night because it all takes a toll on me on the weekend and like my boyfriend told me, you can’t “catch up” on sleep. :P

I don’t actually yawn when I’m tired. My eyes start drooping and I just drop dead, my body feels exhausted. The other night I was waiting for my mum to finish with the computer, and my eyes were just shutting of their own accord. D:

I think it does affect my mental state, though. If I’m tired I can’t really concentrate on anything academic-wise.. (Even though I can still mess with something in Photoshop.)

Ahah my mum never tells family or family friends about my boyfriend. She says “they’re just friends”, every time. She doesn’t want to give the impression that it’s “serious”, I guess. Still, they ask questions about my friends. This happens when we go to Indonesia, where a lot of relatives are. xD;

I’m glad my own friends respect my privacy the same way yours do. I am pretty open, but they never ask me anything too private.

It always feels good to get that twelve hours of sleep on the weekends, but you’re right, it doesn’t make up for all the sleep lost during the week. It’s never good to go back and forth between barely any sleep to too much sleep, but what other option to we have? Naps aren’t fun. They just make me more tired. Coffee is great, but it only lasts for so long. Some day we students will figure out a system.

Whenever I have designer’s block, I just stop making stuff for awhile. I don’t even open Photoshop. It doesn’t work all the time, but sometimes inspiration will just strike me when I’m watching TV or reading.

Just give it time. Funks like this can be irritating, but they usually don’t last. :)

Lack of sleep is exactly my problem. I lay on my bed and close my eyes and I go into this dream world, but that doesn’t do the thing. I may ‘sleep’ for 12 hours, but it doesn’t really help because I usually have a million things in my head. These repeat themselves in my sleep and so, I don’t get a proper sleep before the day starts.

I swear! We were so close before, now we blogged about the same thing. ;)

I know, I shouldn’t have forgotten her birthday. Next time, I’ll make sure I never will. :)

Sounds like you’re in a bit of a “slump” right now. I am currently getting out of that. For me it meant that I open my computer..but basically do nothing. I open my school books, but basically do nothing. I watch TV, but basically don’t pay attention to what I am watching or what’s happening. Life just..moves on, but I can’t concentrate on anything.

Currently, though, I am finally getting back my inspiration and will to do things and spend time well.

Hey! :)

I usually wake up without any kind of emotions.. it’s probably because I usually sleep right through the night and dreams usually don’t really make me wake up.

I’ve had quite a lot of deja vu moments in the past couple of months too! Once something happens I sometimes get the feeling that EXACT SAME thing already happened before.

Things definitely got better at home lately! :)

I never really got enough sleep when I went to school. And the first few days after the breaks were always the worst. I got used to staying up long and sleeping until noon and then I had to get to bed “early” (-> around midnight) and get up by 6am. Most of the time I really needed a “short” (-> 2-3 hours) nap by the end of the weeks.

Sometimes I have quite a lot of ideas for blogging posts too and then when it’s time to actually blog – they’re gone. Maybe we should write them down right away? Or at least make short notes or something. That could probably help. :)

Photoshop is like my biggest enemy lately and also has been for the last couple of months. I used to LOVE making icons and blends and all that stuff. And then pretty much out of a sudden I started to really dislike it with a passion and stopped using Photoshop.

I’ve woken up many times with a sore throat – but not too many. It always turns out bad when I wake up with a sore throat, though. I try to take care of my throat but I don’t know what not to do, other than screaming and shouting. :P I find sore throats really uncomfortable.

Yeah, I thought 8 hours was the ideal amount. I think it might depend on your age though. I get 6-7 hours but if I sleep in and have a day off, I get 9-10. I can’t usually get more than that.

I didn’t know either! But then again I don’t like sleeping for too long so I shouldn’t be bothered all that much. ^_^;

I only have to wear my retainer on some nights. It’s just made of plastic. Sometimes it hurts but what’s annoying is the way it fits on my teeth, which makes me bite the inside of my cheek sometimes.

Hahaha I’m glad I’m not the only one “allergic” to electric toothbrushes.

Thank you! =)

Hey. :) So sorry for the late comment. It’s been since like July lol. Maybe he would wear a disguise and pretend to be someone else to see how people would treat him.

School or no school, I still cannot get enough sleep. My body wakes up too early. If I even hear the tiniest of sounds, I will be awake in a flash.

I think you need some rest. Your body is tired so it’s not functioning right. A couple hours of sleep and no stress will fix that. :)

I’ve been sleeping better recently and I can definitely tell a difference in my overall mood and body. I’ve only been doing this for about 4 days now and I’m hoping I continue to do so, but I was staying up super late and sleeping all day. I still stay up late because I’m a night owl, but I’ve been making myself wake up in the mornings rather than sleeping till 1-4pm. I’ve been waking up around 11am and I can tell a huge difference.

I feel more motivated and happier, less irritable.
