It’s Getting Closer
It’s the first day of June. Whenever someone mentions June, the first thing I think of is school (?), and I’m sure this also happens to many other Filipino students. In about 2 weeks, majority of my life will be dedicated to taking down notes, finishing my homework and studying for tests. It’s because of this that we often get depressed at even just the thought of school.
It’s not that I love school (not at all), but wouldn’t want to start the new school year being all pessimistic and depressed. I’d rather not waste my time complaining and worrying. I want to at least try to stay positive about this. Because of this, I will (be attempting to) list down a few things I actually do like about school.
- Friends – Most people would say that the thing they like most about school is seeing their friends; some may even say that it’s the only thing they like about school. I honestly really miss my friends. During the school year, you get to see them practically everyday.
- Stuff to do – Summer gives you more freedom to do the things you want to do, but, once your done with all that, what do you do? There will always be something to do when you’re in school. I guess this is both a good and a bad thing, but it’s still something.
- Education – Some of you might be wondering why I put this here. You would probably consider education to be one of the less interesting things about school. The thing is, I don’t think we actually hate education. We just hate the homework, the boring lectures and all the hard work. After all, education is the whole reason why we’re going to school in the first place. We should actually be grateful that we even get to have an education and not take it for granted.
- Memories – The greatest, most hilarious, most entertaining, most interesting things happen at school. No matter how depressing or terrible a school day is for you, at least, in the end, you’ll always have a good story.
- Lessons – By lessons, I don’t mean exactly mean the things you learn in the classroom. There can be so many problems and complications in a single school year, and, whether or not you conquer these problems or not, you will always learn from these experiences and come out a better person than you were before.
Now, I just have to remain this optimisic about school until the school year is over. Wish me luck.
Note: Summer in the Philippines starts in June.

The summer in Australia is from November to February; already a big difference there. School generally starts in February as well.
I have to admit, I’ve always been the kind of person to love school. I definitely loved it because of all the reasons you mentioned. Primarily because of friends. They kept me going. I think I wouldn’t have coped so well in school if they weren’t around.
I refused to admit it before as I was in doubt, but I love to learn. I love picking up new things. It makes me feel so accomplished when I do. I’ll admit I’m a lazy person though, and it takes me a lot to pull into that.
I hated holidays because 1) I missed my friends and 2) there was nothing to do! I wanted WORK to do. Nowadays I don’t like it so much because university has a massive workload. :P
Education is so important. A lot of employers now look for people with high qualifications and who have at LEAST finished high school. It’s almost like a must if you want to go on in life. :| Sad for those who can’t afford it… but yeah.
I would have to say that my boyfriend and I are complete opposites as well. I could go on, but I’m sure you know what I mean since you and your boyfriend are the same. :) I guess it’s also what you call a symbiotic relationship. Kind of depending on each other to go on.
My mum once got mad when she discovered I had a website in 2003. She told me to take my photo off. There was only one. But she didn’t really read through all the stuff I wrote or anything. My parents know I have the talent and they’re always encouraging me to keep looking for related jobs.
Ahhh I see what you mean. Sometimes I can read a really long book (500 pages or so) in one sitting, but when I get up I have to steady myself because my head hurts… XD

I don’t like it when some people expect to be the best, and have to be so snobby about false assumptions.
Half of me loves school because I get to see my friends. I barely go out of the house often on the weekends, so that’s why. The other half of me doesn’t like school because of the work that the teachers drown me in. The education can be boring, but I know it’ll help me out later in life. As every year passes by, the work gets harder and harder, and you have to think more critically.
I agree, there can be a lot of memorable moments in school, whether it’s negative or positive. In school, I seem to make my friends laugh every day.

I don’t really work on it, i just like browse through it and view comments that people left and such.
School is basically over me, i just have 1 more day left of it. :D Being positive is a good thing. :) When we came back from Christmas break i was a nervous wreck because i was soo scared that school would be horrible but it wasn’t i kinda like it. :D At the beginning it sucked because there were rumors and people just doesn’t like you at all. But i got through it though.
My favorite things about school is friends, boys, and basically clowning lol. I sometimes like the lesson we learn in class but it just depends on the class or teacher.

Thank you. :D OMG that was soo cruel of her to do. The thing about rumors in my school is that it’s not true, people just make it up so that they can have something to talk about.
Haha i don’t even bring up the lesson either.Comment by isi • June 2, 2010 • 4:45 pm
Wait, did you say school? So early? When do you guys get a summer vacation? I just started mine…like after Finals last Monday! :O
Yeah, I wouldn’t want to start off the school year being depressed either. :S I’m actually depressed right now, it’s just that having fun with my boyfriend is making up for the depression. :\ But once he leaves me after summer, I would then again be depress. But keep your head up high and look on the bright side! Good luck!
