Imagining A Different World
Bored in class the other day, I started to drift away, getting lost in my own thoughts. I then began to wonder…
For the longest time, we humans have been the dominant species on this planet, making use of all this planet’s resources as if they were our own and doing anything we please with this world. That’s how it works – there are the humans, the kings and queens of this world, and there is everything else.
What if we weren’t the only advanced species here? What if there were other animals out there who have managed to find their way to civilization? Would we get along? Would it make things easier or even harder?
We’d probably have no choice but to find a way to cooperate them. That would be hard though, since I can’t really see how we’d communicate; they wouldn’t have the same vocal chords we do, so they probably wouldn’t be able to speak any of our languages very well. Sign language or anything of the sort is out of the question, since I doubt they’d have the same hands as we do. We’d probably fight over land and resources or differences in beliefs as we did with each other in the past. Having something like that would be such a hassle to deal with.

I definitely think it would be very difficult for man to get along with another species on the same level of intelligence.
I mean, man can barely get on with itself, never mind anything else. Think of all the wars that are going on because of culture, religion or resources. If man can’t even get along with people from their own species, I don’t see how getting along with another species would be any easier. If it were me, I’m a pacifist, so I’d make deals with them and sort things out rationally – I wouldn’t fight or war with them. But who’s to say what the rest of the world would do?? It’s a difficult situation to imagine ourselves in!
The only reason humans got as far as they did was because most of them posess hideous amounts of greed. If there was another species on the same level, there would be constant war and the world would just be destroyed and all of us would perish.
We’ll probably all perish in a nuclear war anyway, at the rate the wars are going on at!
They can say all they want that global warming will be the end of the world, that aliens will destroy us all.. the global warming thing would have an affect, maybe – but just a minor one. At the end of the day, man will cause the destruction of earth.

I have never wondered what the world would be like if it were different, in any way. I never thought of another species – that’s definitely something on the other side of the spectrum. I’m always thinking about OUR world and the problems that arise within it, and what other problems could occur. I don’t think about other things.
I have thought about time travel, which is a little “out there”. But I think that if it were even possible, someone would have, by now, come up to us and laughed at us, saying that they’re from the future. :P
I think there would be a lot of tension between species if there was this world you’re imagining. It would be interesting to see how we would fare, but I’m imagining it would become really violent. We already have our own customs and way of life. We might have to change those in this alternate world.

I’ve thought about this before, only instead of humans being dominant along with another species, what if the other species was the only dominant one , and humans were inferior? It’s sort of like that Fairly Odd Parents special where apes ruled the world. I have no idea why, but that was the first example that came into my head..

That’s interesting. I’ve never taken the time to think of such things at least not for awhile. I recall when I was little I used to think about these kind of things all the time.
But it really changes perspective on a lot of things. We always think we’re superior…but what if we weren’t and that superiority was questioned? :P

Completely agree with your comment. If we didn’t have bad, good wouldn’t exist. Everything has an opposite side, hm?

I agree. I had a weird dream this morning that I met a famous tennis player. Some of the weirdest moments really stick on my head.
I understand that, too. Thinking about the good things really makes me smile. I am proud of myself that I’ve really moved on. When I’m in a bad mood, I try to think of the good times that made me smile and that cheers me up a little. I do reflect on the bad times but only in comparison to the good – because I know a lot of good came out of the bad. :)
The past is a part of who we are. I used to not care about it but it’s hard – I know that I’ve come a long way and that no matter what, the past in a way is important.

I had the similar conversation with a group of friends a few months back.
In my opinion, we would never get along or at least it would take 108290 years to get along because man are already finding it hard to get along with other man who are new to their country.
