Because of school, I was forced to go on an unannounced hiatus. I’ve been given way more homework and projects than I can handle – the same goes for the rest of my batchmates.

I’m still adjusting to this new system of learning in our school. Honestly, though, I hate it. It tries to focus more on analysis and application more than just the hard facts, which is all well and good, though it hasn’t been going as well as it should. The curriculum tends to go back and forth between the old system and the new one, so it ends up just being plain confusing. Sometimes, it’s like they’re trying to have both, but, obviously, they can’t do that. There are a couple of things that I particularly hate though.

They’ve been prioritizing projects this year since we need to learn the application of our lessons, which would have been fine, if that was the only thing we had to focus on. Both projects and tests are given importance this school year, and it sucks. It’s hard to focus on so many things at once.

I also found a lot of tests pretty unfair this year. Again, sometimes, they’re just trying to be everything at once. It’s making me hate multiple choice; you don’t put subjective questions in multiple choice. Opinions can’t be wrong (as long as they’re rational), yet you can’t just make the choices all correct. You can’t give us a bunch of choices that are ‘all correct’ and expect us all to choose only the one that’s ‘the most correct’ with questions like that. The ‘right answer’ will always end up being biased.

The school’s still experimenting with it though. Hopefully, it’ll be gone next year, or, at the very least, bearable. I have to say that the tests this year are fairer, in that sense, than last term’s. It could still use some improvement.

I just hope they don’t dump all the projects on us at the same time next time like they did last week. That was brutal. In comparison, final exam week is nothing. Last week, I couldn’t even blog. At least now I can.

Besides all this school stuff, I also got to get an early Christmas present! It’s partially a present for myself though, but a present nonetheless. It’s called the Archos 70 Internet Tablet. It’s an amazing gadget – just the right size for surfing (7 inches), doesn’t cost much (16,000 pesos, in the US it’s 275 dollars I think), it runs on Android (I’ve always wanted an Android device!) and it is unbelievably light! The system’s a bit sluggish at times, but it’s not that big of a problem. I’m actually typing my post on it right now. Sorry if there are any typos because of it though. The geek in me is itching to post a full review on it, but I wouldn’t want to bore you guys to death like that.

I actually really need to study now. I’ve been procrastinating too much. Wish me luck!

The tablet sounds great! I think it’s much too small for me, personally. I didn’t notice any obvious typos. I’m glad you like your early present, though. :D I wish my laptop was a bit lighter haha…

I think it’s a good idea that new system includes applications of theory but that is not as important as knowing and understanding the theory itself. I can see how it helps but your school needs to prioritise what deserves to be prioritised.

I hope you don’t get all those projects dumped on you again like last time. *hugs* Try not to stress out too much, and good luck in your schoolwork!

Aww, I hope you come back soon! Don’t rush yourself – school is more important than webdesigning/blogging! xD

Good luck with school and everything! I hope you do well! Fighting! :)

Good luck with everything. :) That tablet sounds so cool. I kind of want one right now.

The exams that my county makes (short explanation: state test > county test > teacher-made test) are incredibly stupid, and yet we have low average test scores. I’m in gifted and AP classes, so of course the kids in there are exceptions, but the rest of my school is…let’s be honest: lazy. It’s not that the students are stupid; it’s just that they always BS it.

Ugh, that system sounds horrible. It sounds really stupid. Either you focus on a project or a test, it’s impossible to do both at once. That whole multiple choice thing sounds absolutely ridiculous. You can only have multiple choice when there’s one answer. Has nobody said anything about it being impossible?

Ah well, good luck with your studying. :P

Snow is amazing at first but it gets old really quickly. We don’t have enough snow to be good at dealing with it so the whole country grinds to a halt when the snow’s this bad. It’s really annoying. -_-

Merry Christmas! x
