Exams, Frustrations and Plans

For lack of something less boring to post about, I’m going to be blogging about my life – something I haven’t really done in a while.

I’m currently in the middle of my final exams, and, as usual, it was hell. It didn’t help that some of the teachers didn’t teach us the entire curriculum, and we ended up needing to fend for ourselves. Of course, being less dependent on others is a good thing, but isn’t teaching kind of their job? Luckily, everything was in the book, so I ended up reading for hours, over-studying and finding the test to surprisingly easy – well, not easy, but still much easier than expected.

I’ve also been trying to get into Photoshop again (which has been so hard to do because of all the exams and schoolwork) though, more often than not, my creations just end up disappointing me. I’ve been designing some things for print though – something I never thought I’d do – so I’m definitely happy about that. I think I mentioned in a blog post a week or two ago that I designed the school orchestra’s ID and attempted to design the school choir’s ID (though it hasn’t been approved yet). Aside from that, I also designed a few invitations for both myself and my little brother.

I can see myself at least trying to update the icons and themes sites some time soon as it’s probably been months since I’d last updated them; I’m just praying that I’d get the motivation to actually do those things. I’m also thinking about opening a portfolio or something – just for the heck of it – assuming that I’ll have the time to do it.

I sort of opened a lot of websites “for the heck of it”. It’s a bit like my addiction to domains. I registered and bought some just for the heck of it… and I didn’t know what I wanted to do with them! Now I only get them if I know for sure what I want to do. I made a portfolio and I thought it would go well but it took up so much time… and most of the stuff I put there were layouts. Which ended up on my professional portfolio anyway. :| So now I don’t know what to do with my “graphics” portfolio; maybe I’ll make it into an icon archive or something, but I don’t really know. ^_^;

I wish you good luck in the exams! Sometimes in high school we were left to fend for ourselves because the teachers didn’t have time to teach us the entire curriculum, or they completely rushed through it. I hated when that happened, it was so easy to fall behind too. ;_;

I was on my school’s newsletter team, which was really fun. I had to design a print product as an assignment for university last year, which was also pretty enjoyable. We used InDesign. :)

I’ve never really had much of a problem with teachers who don’t teach everything. At the point I’m at now, I’m under the impression that they just can’t. It doesn’t seem like any of my teachers are able to cover EVERYTHING. Luckily, I’ve always been an independent learner anyway.

You should open the portfolio! I hesitated to open mine, but it’s nice to have. Even if there isn’t much in it, it gives you something to reference in case you ever get the surprise commission inquiry.

Good luck with exams. (: It’s tough but eventually you’ll get through it.

That’s really cool that you made the orchestra/choir ID’s. Hopefully the choir one gets approved. I’m not very good at designing things in general sooo for print. :/

I’d love to see some new icons/themes. ^^

To an extent, it’s extremely sweet that he asked again… but it is terribly annoying too. But I really feel nothing for him. I just don’t. And I think he’s too caught up trying to get me to like me that he doesn’t see the good in all the other girls. Stupid boys.

Thank you for the advice. (:

Sometimes when we wanna draw/make something on photoshop, it just don’t turn out nice and it can be frustrating. But perhaps once your stressful period is over your can continue with your icons and themes =)

I wanted to make a portfolio site but I got too lazy so I joined deviantart. Which is pretty awesome.

I hate it when my teacher doesn’t teach anything and then gives my class a test the next day. I always have to cram because of it.

I haven’t used Photoshop in a while. I want to make a layout but I don’t have inspiration.
I’ve never designed prints before. Good for you.
